IP experts Inngot again invited to deliver content for EUIPO Masterclasses

6 Sept 2021

Inngot’s Dr Alison Orr (LinkedIn: DrAlisonOrr) has again been asked by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to help with the organisation’s “Train the Trainers” masterclasses covering the European Commission IP pre-diagnostic (IPPD) service.

The online sessions are organised by the EUIPO on behalf of the European Commission.

Alison was asked to deliver training because of the extensive experience Inngot has in delivering IP audits and commercially-focussed IP management and strategy services, alongside its tools and services for IP valuation and commercialisation purposes.

Alison is the sole external IP expert delivering training alongside EUIPO trainers. She will be sharing best practices on delivery of IP audits, including content on IP commercialisation, management, strategy and valuation in the interactive training session, scheduled to take place on 7-8 September 2021.

Over 100 delegates typically attend these sessions from National Patent Offices, IP lawyers, patent and trade mark attorneys and IP strategists that will be tasked with delivering this new service in their respective countries across the EU.

Dr Alison Orr gained her BSc (Hons) Molecular Biology and D.Phil. Clinical Medicine from the Universities of Glasgow and Oxford. She is a part-qualified patent attorney, and worked in private practice before moving into the world of IP commercialisation.

She spent many years working on IP matters with the European Commission and other EU stakeholders as part of her role in the Enterprise Europe Network (now Innovate UK Edge in the UK) and also lectures in IP and international business at Sheffield Hallam University's Business School.

An IP pre-diagnostic (IPPD) or IP audit is a tool that can help SMEs see the benefits of IP in their individual context and show them how they can integrate IP into their business strategy.

IPPD was a pilot programme initially rolled out in some EU countries, based around and building on experience from similar audit schemes (e.g. the UK IPO's ‘IP Audits Plus’ scheme and initiatives from INPI, France and the Austrian and Netherlands Patent Office, for example). The aim of IPPD is to have a network of business advisers on hand to raise awareness within the EU SME community of IP and wider intangible assets family, and the value they can deliver.

IPPD is now part of the EUIPO’s ‘Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund’ launched in January 2021. This €20 million grant scheme for EU SMEs offers a range of financial support, such as 75% off IP pre-diagnostic services (IP scan) or 50% off trade mark and design application fees (before the EUIPO).

Although the ‘Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund’ is only available to EU SMEs, UK SMEs can benefit from similar IP support schemes available in the UK, via the UK IPO, which can help them by subsidising costs (up to £2,500 plus VAT) for IP audits and IP advice.

Companies which benefit from UK IPO funding may also be eligible for a recently launched UK IPO follow-on grant, which provides up to £5,000 (including VAT) more to take forward any recommendations from earlier IP audits and IP advice.

Inngot has extensive experience of delivering funded IP audit and other IP services, such as IP training, in the UK and beyond and can introduce organisations to such IP support schemes where eligible. Email alison@inngot.com for more information.

The team at Inngot routinely conduct IP audits, Early-Stage Indicative Valuations, bespoke IP valuation and technology valuation services. Further services include training and coaching on IP, technology scouting and advising on exploitation of IP in International Markets.

Inngot also has developed a suite of cost-effective online tools to help innovative businesses identify, manage and value Intellectual Property and intangible assets for themselves.

In addition to Inngot’s low-cost online IP valuation tools, the company contributes to the international debate on how best to help business of all sizes uncover and leverage the value locked up in their IP and other intangible assets. See our Research page for more information or email us at info@inngot.com.

At the recent IP Week in Singapore, Inngot CEO Martin Brassell took part in a WIPO-organised panel discussion on the subject of IP-based finance, which was introduced by WIPO Director General Daren Tang.

Inngot and its partner, international IP services firm Rouse, have also recently worked with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, one of the world's top 10 biggest brands, to launch Intangio, a new tool to help Chinese insolvency practitioners set an intelligent, data-driven reserve price for patents sold on Alibaba’s Ali Auctions platform.
