The Central Asian republic of Uzbekistan is the latest country to propose legal changes to make it easier for companies to use their intellectual property as collateral for finance.
According to media reports, including this article on Uzbekistani news site Daryo:
A draft law discussed at the end of July 2026 in the Legislative Chamber of the country’s Parliament, the Oliy Majlis, explores how IP rights could be strengthened and how they could be used to raise finance.
Uz Daily, another local news site, reported:
Paarticipants also pointed out that Uzbekistan has joined 19 international IP agreements in recent years and has aligned its laws to conform to the World Trade Organisation’s Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). Uzbekistan's ranking in the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s Global Innovation Index has risen from from 93rd place in 2020 to 79th place in 2025.
